Nuorten Ystävät is a non-profit organisation established in 1907

We have been working with the most vulnerable, children, young people and families in need for over 118 years.
Our name is deeply connected to our history and translates “Friends of Young People” yet we provide services for all ages.

The organisation carries out expert and advocacy work in its activities. The main task of the organisations work is to oversee the interests of people in need of support, act as an enabler of participation and provide social welfare services through the companies it owns.

Parents’ Academy® ​

Every year more than 3 500 parents, children and youth receive tools for better parenting and relationships through the Parents’ Academy® courses, groups and personal support.

We also prevent school dropouts and support school engagement among middle school children.

Children SIB Programme in Jyväskylä​

Improving familieswell-being by offering customized services during the last four years of basic education (school years 6 to 9).

Staff of five specialists with different skills and professional backgrounds. Every family gets a designated employee for four years.

In practice: meetings, short interventions, groups, events, additional services.

The goal is to

  • reduce the amount of school absences and NEET teenagers
  • help to develope skills to succeed in later studies
  • reduce the amount of child protection services needed.
  • create a programme model that could be used nationally in the future. ​​

Schools​

We maintain two private basic education schools that provide special support and individual solutions to support learning for pre-primary and basic education ages as well as for children and young people in additional basic education.

Social rehabilitation and employment

We support our customers to take the next step on their individual rehabilitation path towards social inclusion by means of social rehabilitation and job coaching in accordance with the IPS (Individual Placement and Support) model.

In this field we reach annually over 1 700 people in different units all over Finland.

Clubhouses

Clubhouses are low-threshold communities where you can meet other people, get support and meaningful activities for your everyday life, and strengthen your skills.

We offer a wide range of activities and support both on-site and at the virtual clubhouse online.

Coaching workshops​

Coaching workshops are intended for unemployed or inactive young people and adults. The workshops are open, and participation is voluntary.

Everyone is offered individual coaching by a professional work coach to support participation and self-efficacy.

Substance abuse work​

Verto offers community-based, low-threshold and functional peer-to-peer activities for those recovering from drug addiction and their families.

Onnikka offers young people professional help with mental health problems and loneliness in small municipalities in Northern Ostrobothnia. Funded by Funding Centre for Social Welfare and Health Organisations (STEA).

Make it
project aims to support families who have immigrated to Oulu. The project is targeted for families who have arrived through international protection, such as Ukrainians receiving temporary protection. Funded by Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund AMIF.

Duuniloikka and Ota haltuun projects focus on job coaching and the individual support for example young neurodiverse people and those who have partial work ability, long-term unemployed accordance with the IPS (Individual Placement and Support) model. Funded by European Social Fund.

Romano offers young Romani people support with active involvement, wellbeing, work life skills, education and employment. The project is in collaboration with Oulu University of Applied Sciences and funded by European Social Fund.
